For the 'RSVP: artists respond to aspex'-project, I was asked to express artistically the impressions I had visiting Portsmouth.
Portsmouth has a long naval history which can be easily seen when visting the city. On such an excursion in Portsmouth I visited a submarine, where I learned that while submersed for days on end the difference between day and night was artifically created using red (night) and white (day) light.
I applied the same idea to aspex gallery. When the gallery was closed red lights were turned on, so the installation was actually only visible when the gallery was closed! Red lights in a harbor city of course also have a completely different connotation...
